THE PROJECT
Action and lifestyle. Athletes and actors. Fluffy snow on the ground and clear, bluebird skies. Reliable G&E and expert drone pilots. Imagine our excitement (& slight hesitation) when we were asked to use all of these elements in one shoot.
When we received the above brief from Vail Resorts, we knew we had our work cut out for us. Our Director & Photographer Shannon Corsi created a detailed shot list outlining her vision for a day of filming on-mountain, and a day of lifestyle scenes around Park City Resort. We set to work, hiring crew members who were familiar with filming in snow, and many of whom were skilled skiers. Our casting process included the typical review of headshots and reels, but also ski and snowboard demos.
The logistics of organizing an on-mountain shoot are nothing short of complicated. Which is why we turned to our Director Shannon, and DP Austin Hopkins — both experts in filming that maximizes terrain, the talent of highly skilled athletes, unknown mountain conditions, and unpredictable weather. It took weeks of planning to create a run of show that felt feasible, full of cinematic possibility, and physically safe for cast, crew, and clients alike.
It’s all about the partners you choose, which is why we prioritized hiring skilled and nimble crew who could think on their feet and didn’t mind hours of cold. With a rockstar Production team, excellent casting, and a little weather luck, we created spots that make the idea of spending more hours in the snow actually sound like fun.
